July 24 Dr. Julie Berg Ryan

Vision Therapy

Dr. Julie Berg Ryan has served the Irvine community as a developmental optometrist since 1988.  She was a partner in the Irvine Optometric Group.  In 1999, she decided to further specialize her practice and split from the group to form her own practice.  The practice of Dr. Julie Berg Ryan has been located at the Woodbridge Medical Building since its inception.

Dr. Ryan provides pediatric and general optometric services.  However, her optometric emphasis is on vision care for children with developmental problems, learning related visual problems and strabismus and amblyopia.  The provision of Vision Therapy to ameliorate the conditions that interfere with the function of the eyes is a major portion of the practice.

In addition to holding her Doctor of Optometry, Dr. Ryan holds a Master of Science in Education degree.  Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Ryan served for 12 years full-time Associate Professor at Southern College of Optometry where she was the Chief of the Pediatric Vision Services.  She continues teaching there on a part-time basis and has been honored for over 25 years of continuous service to the College.

Dr. Ryan is a nationally recognized expert and lectures throughout the USA and Canada.  She has contributed to many articles and books.  In addition Dr. Ryan is a Fellow in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the American Academy of Optometry.  She is a Diplomate in Binocular Vision, Perception and Pediatrics.

Dr. Ryan has been recognized as a Woman of Excellence in Orange County, as the California Optometrist of the Year for 1999 and the Outstanding Alumna for the Illinois College of Optometry for 2001.
