Come to a TACA Meeting!

TACA holds monthly meetings in many locations throughout the United States that feature educational speakers on important topics and allow family members to connect with one another and stay on top of the latest information in the autism world. Each TACA group maintains a resource library of the latest autism books and DVDs/CDs that can be checked out by members at no charge.

Speaker: Carrie Dishlip, M.S. CCC-SLP and Supervisor of Speech Language Pathology and Social Skills at Pediatric Therapy Network.

Come and learn about strategies to help your child to increase their skills in the following areas:

  • Greeting and sharing
  • Cooperative and interactive play
  • Making friends
  • Participating in conversations
  • Avoiding and resolving conflicts
  • Taking turns


Speaker Bio:
Carrie Dishlip graduated from the University of Arizona with a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology in 2002. She has worked in pediatrics and has experience working with children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, childhood apraxia of speech, emotional and mental health disorders and various developmental delays. She has been running Buddy Club social skill groups for 5 years.

SPECIAL EVENT: $5 Autism Family Night at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Join us on Friday, October 8, 2010 for a special evening at the Aquarium for families with adults or children with autism. The entire Aquarium, except Lorikeet Forest, will be open until 9:00pm. This will be a peaceful evening when guests can enjoy the tranquility of the exhibits and meet 11,000 animals from the world's largest ocean. Admission is just $5.00 for everyone after 5:00pm. Members and children under the age of 3 are free.

Come and get some recipes of foods that you can put on your table for the Holidays. You don't need to go without, just make a plan and go for it! All of your favorites can be created GFCF ...turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and whipped cream.

We will have Jennifer Kropke, Esq., a special education attorney, available to answer your questions about Regional Center, school districts, and more.

Speaker Bio:
A 2000 graduate of UCLA's School of Law, Jennifer Kropke, Esq. has her own boutique law firm, The Law Offices of Jennifer Kropke, dedicated exclusively to helping parents of special needs children. Ms. Kropke has extensive special education law experience; her last hearing decision resulted in her clients obtaining a finding against the school district on multiple issues - requiring the school district to provide over 300 hours of costly compensatory education to her clients for the district's IDEA violations. Ms. Kropke is also a frequent lecturer for parent support groups, focusing her presentations on empowering parents by educating them on the law and the strategy involved in special education cases. She provides special education representation to parents and grandparents, as well as practices family law exclusively for cases involving parents of special needs children, and establishes conservatorships on behalf of clients who require them at age 18.
